Today, in recognition of 39 years of remarkable service, our students, faculty, staff, and community lined the halls to clap out Mr. TJ Palmer on his ceremonial last day of class.

Mr. Palmer came to Brewster in 1987. He has served as a history teacher, team leader, coach, dorm parent, club founder, and so much more. He helped grow Brewster’s hockey program from a roofless sheet of ice into a Lakes Region powerhouse. He launched the Tailgate Squad, drove his own grill to home and away games, and once bought and personally operated an ice cream truck just to bring a little joy to campus.

At today’s ceremony, Head of School Kristy Kerin announced that Mr. Palmer’s classroom will be permanently named Mr. P’s Classroom, a fitting tribute to a teacher whose energy, humor, and passion for teaching left a lasting impact on generations of students.

The community will gather once more for a campus-wide tailgate, because if anyone deserves a tailgate thrown in their honor, it is the man who started it all.

Thank you, Mr. P. It has been an extraordinary 39 years.

Last Saturday our Boys’ and Girls’ Varsity Lacrosse programs took the field to play in honor of something greater. Boys’ Lacrosse hosted the annual Nate Billings Classic, honoring Nate Billings ‘09, a four-year Bobcat who battled and beat cancer in 2008 and came back stronger to play his senior year.

Girls’ Varsity Lacrosse had its Play 4 Pink game, bringing the community together to raise awareness and honor the family, friends, and loved ones who have bravery fought the battle themselves. We are proud of these players as they reminded us all what it means to compete with purpose.

Calling all soccer and lacrosse alumni! Ready to lace up? Reunion Weekend is just two weeks away, and this year we are bringing Bobcat Nation back together with two alumni games on Saturday, May 30. First up: our alumni soccer game, dedicated to long-time Girls` Varsity Soccer head coach Matt Butcher as he finishes his final year at Brewster. Coach Butcher has been a pillar of Brewster athletics for 24 years, leading the program to 17 Lakes Region Championships and 8 New England Championships. We`ll have more to celebrate Coach Butcher in the coming months, but for now, we want you to celebrate him at Reunion Weekend.

Second: our alumni lacrosse game is scheduled for Saturday afternoon and continues to be a favorite among players and coaches.

Come back, compete, reconnect, and join us in celebrating the legacy of Coach Butcher and your playing days at Brewster.

Our last Community Dinner of the year looked a little different on Monday night. Students and faculty gathered outside for a burger BBQ while the Boys’ Varsity Lacrosse team took the field, bringing the whole community together in true Bobcat fashion.

Before diving into a class debate on the Vietnam War, students in TJ Palmer’s US History class had the opportunity to hear from someone who lived it for themselves.

Al Simoes, a Vietnam War veteran and former Brewster English teacher, visited the class to share his personal experience going through basic training, serving on active duty, and navigating the journey home. Students came prepared with questions, listening closely and taking notes, not just to sharpen their debate points, but to understand what it truly means to live through history.
